Chelsea have recently signed a five-year contract extension with their new defensive star Trevoh Chalobah. The Englishman has put pen to paper and has pledged to stay at the club till 2026. Chalobah came up through the club’s academy and broke into the senior team in 2018 and had to wait for his chances.
Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel were almost sure to loan him off but then he had a brilliant outing and the German tactician changed his mind. He saw that raw potential and that desire for the badge and decided to keep him at the club on a long term basis.
The 22-year-old has had loan stints with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient before finally being handed his senior team debut against Crystal Palace, this August.
Chalobah was extremely excited while he put pen to paper on fresh terms. “It’s quite surreal. It’s a dream for me to sign a new long-term contract for my boyhood club and hopefully the dream continues, ” the 22-year-old said on the club’s officila website after signing a new deal.
“It’s been an unbelievable start to the season and something I never expected but it just shows that the hard work I’ve put in and going out on loans has paid off.
“I tried to impress the manager in pre-season and then take that into the games so it’s been good and consistency now is the key to keep those high levels,” Chalobah added.
Chelsea Director Marina Granvskaiapoints out how emotional Chalobah was when he scored his first goal on debut for Chelsea. He won the Chelsea Goal of the month award for a thunderous strike from distance. Marina shared how Chalobah’s feelings after he scored that goal was felt by everyone at the club.
The youngster constant consistent performances have earned him a slot in the England U21 setup. He is technically correct and can even slot in as a defensive midfielder especially with his physicality and ability to progress the ball. In defence, that becomes too risky but still he has great game awareness. Overall Tuchel feels that the 22-year-old can be a gem for the Blues in the upcoming seasons.
