Manchester United and Three Lions defender Luke Shaw has shown his readiness to be featured at the Euros 2024 championship, where England is preparing for the semifinals of the competition against the Netherlands.
Hamstring problems meant that Gareth Southgate saw out his first four matches at the Euros without his specialist left-back, Luke Shaw. Fortunately, the Red Devils defender was available for the quarterfinal victory over Switzerland as he was a second-half substitute in the extra-time win.
Shaw played the final twelve minutes of regular time and the subsequent extra time as England won on penalties to move to the semifinals.
The player revealed that while the decision to start the fixture is dependent on the head coach of the team, Gareth Southgate, he believes he is ready to start a game if trusted.
“Of course, I think I am [fit and ready to play 90 minutes]. That is down to Gareth’s decision. I feel fit and ready to go. The last four months have been really tough. At the start, I expected to come back a lot sooner, but I went through a lot of setbacks. It was really nice to get on the other night and get some minutes – I’ve been itching.” Shaw said.
Luke Shaw went on to appreciate the head coach and assistant head coach of the team, Gareth and Steve [Holland, England assistant manager], as well as the medical staff for his rehabilitation back to full fitness.
The majority of the defender’s international numbers came under Garth Southgate, as 26 of Shaw’s 32 international caps came under him. The semifinals is the second successive one that England will reach after getting to the finals last time, where they lost to Italy in the final of the competition.
The Three Lions will face The Netherlands on Wednesday for a place in the final, while France faces Spain on Tuesday.
