Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, has emphasized his focus on acquiring players who can elevate the club to a higher level during the summer transfer window. The Gunners had an impressive season in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta, unexpectedly challenging for the title. Although they fell short in the race against Manchester City, Arsenal secured a second-place finish and qualified for the next season’s Champions League.
With the upcoming transfer window, Arteta is expected to receive a substantial budget to bolster his squad. However, Edu has made it clear that the club is only interested in recruiting top-quality players for the 2023/24 campaign. Edu’s track record includes successful signings like Gabriel Jesus and Jorginho, who have made significant contributions to the club. This respectable work highlights Edu’s influential role in determining which players come to the Emirates.
In an interview with ESPN, Edu revealed his plans for the next transfer window.
“It’s identifying very well where we can improve. If they are individual, isolated positions, if they are units, if they are ‘final third’, as we call it here, if they are midfield, defensive part. This diagnosis we already have because we already have a very clear style of play for Arteta.
“Today, you see Arsenal playing and you identify, you know that is Arsenal’s style. So now it’s time to understand where we can boost the units, so that the team can improve and go to another level of performance. And I think there is another level, we have one more level.
“Me and Arteta talking, we believe that we have a level to improve in terms of performance. And now make a good transfer window, understand the need, to hit the athlete, the characteristic, the mentality of the athlete we want, to once again raise the level of our squad.” Edu told.
