Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has revealed that he’s confident of the contributions that the club’s latest signing will add to his team.
The Magpies signed English youngster Anthony Gordon on Sunday for a fee around £40M from Everton after the 21-year-old forward forced his move from Goodison Park by refusing to train with the Toffees.
Gordon has featured 16 times for Everton in the Premier League and has scored three goals compared to his four goals and two assists in 35 games last season.
The low numbers don’t disturb Eddie Howe, who believes that the youngster has a lot to still give to the team and the tendency to make a huge impact in the future.
“I think he will give us a lot. He’s a young player with huge attributes and huge potential to have a big impact on our season. He’s a very quick, dynamic player. The best is yet to come from him, but he can add something different for us, and I’m delighted to get him. We are getting someone that is fiercely determined, ambitious.” Howe said.
The player was also courted by Chelsea, but the forward revealed that his interest in Newcastle stuck the moment he heard of their interest in signing him. Despite being at Everton since he was 11 years old, the player boasted that the best of him hasn’t been seen yet.
Gordon made his senior team debut for the Merseyside team in 2017 and scored seven goals in 78 appearances for the club. His last start for Everton came in the defeat to Wolves at home on Boxing Day of the Premier League last year.
His last goal for Everton was on October 27 in a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace. His debut for Newcastle United nation this weekend in the Premier League against West Ham.
