Club skipper Marco Reus has struggled with fitness issues in the last, and this has led to the unrest in the team and with the fans.
Marco Reus has had a fantastic 2019 so far, and he has stayed fit compared to previous years where he has always had fitness concerns. He has also scored and assisted an array of goals, and for the second time in his career, he won the award of the German footballer of the year, beating Bayern Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz and Bayern Munich Joshua Kimmich.
He has been hitting the ground running this season and looks set to better his performance from last season which saw him scored 17 goals and had a hand in 8 assists in Borussia Dortmund challenging for Bundesliga title.
Last season, despite Reus’ performance, Dortmund lists the league to titleholders Bayern Munich by two points – a narrow margin. This season, Reus and the rest of the team has put behind them the disappointment of last season, and Reus has now scored three goals in four matches for Dortmund in the Bundesliga this campaign.
His best performance so far this season came in the 4-0 win over Leverkusen in the matchday four last week.
In that match, he scored two goals as Dortmund climbed over their rivals Bayern Munich into second place behind table-toppers RB Leipzig. The two goals in addition to his previous goals and assists for Dortmund took his tally to 200 in the Bundesliga [ 119 goals, 81 assists], and also capped his 100th win in 167 Bundesliga matches for Dortmund.
Reus however, is a class action figure for his club on, and off the pitch, at the average least, he scores one goal in two games for Dortmund and has never failed to deliver when fit, and when not playing football.
He has been a great ambassador to the club. He also played a part in the signing of fellow teammate signed this summer from Leverkusen – Julian Brandt. He even recently promised he would convince Bayern Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz to join the club next season.
However, the club must help him stay fit to help with push for another attempt at the Bundesliga title this season, else they could lose the man who is a key to their progress this season.
