Brazilian defender Daniel Alves is set for a second exit from Barcelona, according to reports in the Spanish media on Wednesday.
Alves returned to Barcelona last year and has now revealed that he will be departing the club this summer. The 39-year spent the previous five years away from Camp Nou.
The Brazilian also played at Juventus and PSG in Italy and France, respectively, where he also won titles. However, Alves has now indicated that his time at Camp Nou is over.
“I would like to thank all the staff for the opportunity they gave me to return to this club and to be able to wear that wonderful shirt again. You don’t know how happy I am. It closes a very beautiful cycle and opens another even more challenging one,” Alves posted on social media.
Alves spent 8 years in his first stint with Barcelona winning 23 trophies in total, including three UEFA Champions League trophies, four Copa Del Rey titles.
He also won the Seria title with Juve in 2017 before winning the Ligue 1 with PSG om 2017-18 and 2018-19. Alves has now only spent seven months on his second stint at the Camp Nou, playing 14 games in the La Liga with one goal and three assists.
Barcelona finished second on the La Liga table behind Real Madrid. They also had a forgettable UEFA Champions League season.
Barcelona started the season with Ronald Koeman before replacing him with Xavi, who turned the fortunes of the team.
The Catalunya side dropped out of the UEFA Champions League group stage. The group had Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Dynamo Kiev.
Real Madrid won the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League with Carlo Ancellotti in charge. Although the Copa Del Rey was lifted by Real Betis.
