Manchester United were thumped 5-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool at home and Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that the United fans deserve a lot better than this underwhelming display at the Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were 4-0 down at the break as the Reds came back in the second half to add another one. Mohamed Salah, who is in exceptional form scored a brilliant hattrick whereas Naby Keita and Diogo Jota added a goal.
The Portuguese talisman is not happy with the performances of his entire team as they have failed to win their last four matches this season. “Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame,” Ronaldo wrote after the match on Instagram.
“Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver.
“The time is now!”
The string of underwhelming results have only increased the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian’s future at Old Trafford is a big question as most fans want him gone. People lost their minds when Solskjaer started with Fred and Scott McTominay at double pivot while Paul Pogba was on the bench in a match against Liverpool.
It was in form Naby Keita who broke the deadlock just five minutes into the game as the Reds completely dominated the game from start to finish. They were 4-0 up at halftime, deflating the morale of the players and also of the Manchester United fans.
Pogba later replaced Mason Greenwood in the second half and his highlight from this game was a rash tackle on Keita which saw him getting sent off. The Guinea International was down on the ground with pain and was finally stretchered off the field.
While Ronaldo had his moments as he almost thought that he had scored until it got cancelled through VAR.
United are currently in the seventh position with 14 points, eight points behind league leaders, Chelsea. They will face Tottenham Hotspur next on October 30th.
