Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world. There is no doubt about that. The Portuguese star has been involved in some controversial moments in recent months, but that does not change the fact that he is still a world-class player.
Many thought his recent forced departure from Manchester United would affect his game, but this does not seem to matter to Ronaldo, who is focused on Portugal advancing in the world cup.
And it is that Cristiano has once again written his name in the history books this Thursday by becoming the second footballer to score a goal in five consecutive World Cups, equaling Lothar Matthäus.
CR7’s first goal in a World Cup was in Germany 2006 when he scored a goal against Iran.
He would follow South Africa 2010 where he had a goal and an assist in the 7-0 rout of North Korea.
Four years later in Brazil in 2014, he scored for Ghana.
His fourth World Cup was in Russia 2018 in which he scored a hat-trick against Spain and a goal against Morocco.
In Portugal’s debut in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he once again scored a goal against Ghana.
Lothar Matthäus was the only player who had managed to score in five World Cups.
Big names like Maradona, Messi, Pelé, Ronaldo (Brazil), Henry, and Klose only managed to score in four consecutive World Cups.
With this record, the name of Cristiano Ronaldo remains engraved in the history of the world cups.
