Cole Palmer broke through a lot of landmarks in Chelsea’s impressive victory over Everton in their Premier League fixture on Monday at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer hit a stunning 29-minute hat trick and scored four in total on the night to help the Blues to a 6-0 victory.
He becomes the first Chelsea player to score two hat-tricks in a single season in the Premier League and also caught up with Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot with 20 goals each.
The defeat is Sean Dyche’s biggest defeat as a manager, Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest win as Chelsea manager, but all eyes and the attention was on Cole Palmer, who has now scored back-to-back home hat-tricks at Stamford Bridge.
His first goal was the best of the bunch, as he nutmegged one Everton defender, then played a one-two with Nicolas Jackson before hitting in a sumptuous effort from 20 yards. He scored his second five minutes later, heading in from close range. He then completed his hat-trick after poor decision-making by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The goalkeeper’s attempt to play out fell to Palmer, who then hit the ball from long range and found the back of the net. Nicolas Jackson scored a fourth for Chelsea before halftime, but Palmer continued in the second half from the penalty spot before Alfie Gilchrist slammed home late to complete the scoreline.
Chelsea is in ninth position with 47 points, but they are only three points behind Newcastle, who are currently in a European spot. Everton are only two points above Luton Town as they prepare to play Nottingham Forest on Sunday in a fixture at the bottom.
Chelsea will turn their attention to the FA Cup at the weekend when they face Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final.
