FC Barcelona have had a massive turnaround in their fortunes in recent times and the biggest reason for that has to be the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as the manager. Therefore club president Joan Laporta now believes that they can win the La Liga title this season.
Laporta is confident that if the Catalans keep up their current form then they can take down arch-rivals Real Madrid who are at the summit of the La Liga standings. Xavi’s men have been sensational off late as they came up with a very special 4-0 win against rivals Real Madrid in the El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu stamping their authority and proving to the world that they are back.
Recent signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brilliant brace against Los Blancos whereas Ferrand Torres and Ronald Araujo added one goal each to complete the humiliation. However, despite the win, Barcelona remains 12 points behind their arch rivals in the La Liga standings and it will need a massive turnaround for the Catalans to lift the league trophy.
The Blaugrana have one game at hand so they can bring the deficit down to a single digit and from there, any falter will have to be capitalized by Xavi’s men. However, they cannot afford to even drop a single point from hereon as it will technically end their dreams of winning the La Liga.
Therefore Laporta insists that his team will put the pressure on their rivals and sneak it past them in the title race. He highlights how he is ready to accept a Europa League win and second finish in the La Liga. But also shares how winning the league remains an aspiration.
“I am not ready to accept just winning the Europa League and finishing second in LaLiga Santander. I want to win La Liga Santander. I truly believe in it, we have the team to win it and we have reached the final stretch playing well.”
The club president even shared how the players also believe that they can still win the La Liga title from here. “The team is working well and they believe even more than I do that we can win LaLiga Santander. If we keep it up, we will be champions.”
