In his first interview with the club, New Milan striker Samuel Chukwueze admits he had thought the offer for him ‘was a joke.’
Speaking further, the Nigerian winger said he was also advised by fellow National teammate Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen to join Diavolo.
‘He said don’t hesitate to sign for them,” the former Villarreal winger said.
Milan signed the 24-year-old from Villarreal for a reported €20m plus up to €8m in various add-ons and performance-related bonuses on Wednesday after a successful medical.
Chukwueze told Milan’s official website that the approach from the san siro club was crazy, qs he was a little bit nervous.
Before he joined the 5he club, the Nigerian said Milan fans sent him messages.
“They are amazing people, which was one reason I came here.
“When they told me about the approach, I thought they were joking. I didn’t think about it twice.”
Now that he will be plying his trade in Italy, Chukwueze hopes to follow in the footsteps of Osimhen, who won the Scudetto and took the Capocannoniere crown at Napoli last season.
According to Chukwueze, Osimhen described Milan as the best club he shouldn’t hesitate to sign for.
While noting that Milan fans are fantastic, he said they are amazing and crazy about football.
Chukwueze, who revealed that the Napoli striker played a major role in making him join AC Milan, also said they joked about who will win when their teams come face-to-face, which they did last season in both Serie A and the Champions League quarter-finals.
Chukwueze is expected to fill the right-wing position as a mirror to Rafael Leao. The winger also admitted he tries to learn from former Netherlands international Arjen Robben and his Milan hero Ricky Kaka.
Coach Stefano Pioli is expected to utilise the winger, who is a good addition to the squad, as the workload on the Portuguese forward will reduce.
