Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson will not face any retrospective action for his involvement in a heated altercation during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The brawl, which erupted in the second half of the Premier League fixture, led to charges being filed against both Chelsea and Forest by the Football Association (FA) for failing to control their players.
The clash occurred after Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams shoved Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella into his own manager, Enzo Maresca, sparking a mass confrontation between the two teams. During the melee, footage appeared to show Jackson raising his arm toward Forest defender Morato. However, after a review by VAR officials, it was determined that Jackson’s actions did not warrant further punishment. It has been learnt that the FA will not take retrospective action against the Chelsea forward.
Despite Jackson escaping further scrutiny, both clubs now face charges from the FA.
In a statement released on Tuesday, an FA spokesperson outlined the reasons for the charges: “Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged after the mass confrontation at their Premier League fixture on Sunday, 6 October. It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute.”
The statement further added that Chelsea and Forest have until Thursday, 10 October, to respond to the charges.
In addition to the FA charges, Chelsea faces other disciplinary consequences following Sunday’s match. Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana became the first players of the Premier League season to serve suspensions for accumulating five yellow cards.
Chelsea collected six yellow cards during the game, an infraction that typically results in a £25,000 fine. However, this was their second offense of the season, having already committed a similar breach in last month’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth. As a result, Chelsea must now pay a £50,000 fine.
The FA’s decision to charge both teams highlights the league’s ongoing efforts to maintain discipline and sportsmanship on the field, even as tempers flared in this highly contested match. Both clubs will now await the FA’s ruling following their responses to the charges.
