The deal is a progress for the Blues who have always had their sights on the 26-Year-old Winger all through the winter transfer window.
Their moves for Ziyech were met with strong resistance by the Ajax management, who want to keep their Moroccan international in order to focus on their bid for the Eredivisie title.
The deal with Ajax for Ziyech involves a price tag of €40M, which could rise to €44M, albeit there is still a personal agreement to be met with the player.
Hakim Ziyech will be the first player to be signed by Frank Lampard since the transfer ban placed on the London club was lifted.
Chelsea, during the January transfer window were said to have been interested in a couple of forwards, including Napoli’s Striker Dries Mertens and Uruguayan Edinson Cavani.
Frank Lampard’s lack of getting new signings is a result of clubs’ willingness to sell instead of the club’s perceived weak recruitment strategy.
Hakim Ziyech debuted in Eredivisie in 2012, scoring 79 and assisted 87 in his eight years, and he won the Dutch Eredivisie and reached the Semi-final of the UEFA Champions League with Ajax.
The team lost out of the Final of the 2018/2019 to Tottenham Hotspur on away goals rule. In the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League group stage match against Chelsea, Ziyech contributed three goals to Ajax’s four goals in the 4-4 draw in November.
Ziyech was a part of the Moroccan national team that failed to go past Benin Republic in the round of 16 of the African Cup Of Nations in Egypt last July.
Chelsea are currently sitting in fourth in the English Premier League standings.
