Chelsea FC on Tuesday evening managed a 1-0 victory over relegated Norwich City at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea scored the only goal in the 45th minute just before half-time through French striker Olivier Giroud after an assist by Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea had lost their last game against Sheffield United 3-0 at the Bramall Lane while Norwich City were confirmed relegated into the championship after their loss a 4-0 loss at home at the Carrow Road to the West Ham United.
The Blues before the game were 1 point above Leicester City and Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskajer side’s 2-2 draw against Southampton on Monday, Chelsea needed to widen their point gap with just two games left.
The matchwinner for Chelsea, French striker Olivier Giroud stated his happiness about the game, looking at how it was difficult to break down Norwich.
“We needed to be patient and move the ball quick against a team who play a deep block. We created a lot of chances, but it was important to score before half-time. We should have scored more goals as we had a lot of possession. The team was a bit under pressure also because we know we needed the win definitely, so we are happy. We really wanted to bounce back, and we played a good team against Sheffield United. We have made mistakes, obviously, so we tried not to do it again. This determination to do well tonight was very high. The most important thing was the three points, so we feel relief now.” Giroud said.
Chelsea will face Liverpool next away from home and host Wolves at the Stamford Bridge in the last match of the season for Frank Lampard’s men.
