Celtic complete Jeffrey Schlupp loan deal from Crystal Palace

    February 4, 2025

Celtic have completed a loan deal for Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp. The versatile 32-year-old will join until the summer.

Schlupp completed his medical before signing his contract, and Celtic agreed to cover a significant portion of his wages to finalize the deal.

The former Leicester City man was keen on a move to Parkhead because it would give him the opportunity to compete for silverware and experience Champions League football.

With Celtic set to take on Bayern Munich, Schlupp will add experience and depth to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Schlupp’s ability to play left-back, left-wing, or central midfield makes him a valuable option for Rodgers, especially with Adam Montgomery set to leave on loan and Kieran Tierney not arriving until the summer.

Schlupp has managed only 173 minutes of action this season across all competitions. He has dropped down the pecking order, although injuries did hamper his regular participation in the first team this season.

Celtic badly needed to sign a left-back as they are left with Greg Taylor as the only option.

The Bhoys have agreed a pre-contract deal with Kieran Tierney, but he will join next summer. They need a cover now after Barcelona terminated Alex Valle’s loan deal.

German-born Schlupp has spent his entire career down south after coming through the ranks at Leicester City.

He’s racked up 280 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 22 times and supplying 15 assists.

It remains to be seen what role Schlupp will play under Brendan Rodgers’s management, but it promises to be a big boost to the squad.

With the exit of Kyogo Furuashi and the return of Jota, Brendan Rodgers could as well shuffle things upfront to give the Celtic front look a new cutting-edge

Celtic welcome Dundee FC to the Celtic Park on Wednesday as they hope to further stretch their lead on the SPFL log.
