Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has stated that the club is in a transitioning period and hopes that the two old warhorses in the team understand as they go into the rebuilding process at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The revelation hints that the two players could be phased out of the clubs to allow younger players to bloom. Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos have been starting in place of German midfielder Toni Kroos and Croatian star Luka Modric in the Real Madrid team this season.
Furthermore, the duo will see their contracts expire at the end of the season, with talks about renewal unsure. Initially, multiple reports claimed Toni Kroos would retire at the end of the season. However, this has been debunked lately, with the player stating that he wants to continue with his career at the Santiago Bernabeu for as long as possible. At the same time, Luka Modric has also echoed a similar trajectory for his career.
However, Carlo Ancelotti has stated that both players know the role they play in the team and that he has informed them from the start of the season that they may have to endure limited playing time.
“They understand very well their role and what I ask them. They know there’s a lot of quality inside this squad. It’s a moment of transition. I talked to them about this at the start of the season.” Ancelotti said.
Real Madrid are courting an English midfielder who plays at Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham, with hopes of signing him in the summer. At the same time, Eduoardo Camavuinga and Aurelien Tchouameni continue to instill their presence in the team.
Toni Kroos has played fourteen La Liga games this season with two goals and two assists, while Luka Modric has three goals and two assists in 16 La Liga games this season. The Croat joined Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham and won Five UEFA Champions League Titles and Three La Liga trophies, while Kroos joined the Los Blancos in 2014, winning four UEFA Champions League Trophies and Three La Liga titles.
