Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted to being the reason behind the Los Blancos’ huge defeat to Barcelona in the El Clasico on Sunday evening.
Real Madrid was comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu in a display that Barca manager Xavi has hailed his team for.
However, the Blaugrana are still 12 points behind Real Madrid, while The Galacticos are still leading the La Liga table with nine points ahead of second-placed Sevilla.
Barcelona opened the scoring through Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 29th minute and also added another in the first six minutes of the second half.
Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres added the other two goals in the big win which Ancellotti has now claimed his team played without their identity, and such he alone should be blamed for the tactics he employed.
“It is tough because it is a Clasico, for the fans when we play against Barca… it is a blow, we have lost a battle, we still have an advantage, and we have to stay calm and get back our injured players. We were unrecognizable, everything went wrong. We have to forget that and move forward, amd we have a big lead [in La Liga]. I, the coach, am at fault. I failed in this game” Ancelotti said after the game.
Ancellotti will hope to get his full squad back as Real had to deal with the absence of French striker Karim Benzema who is the highest goalscorer in the La Liga.
Real Madrid still remains at the top of the table with a nine-point lead ahead of Sevilla, who sits in second. The Los Blancos have 66 points, while Sevilla has 57.
Barcelona is now in third with 54 points level with Athletico Madrid in the fourth position on the La Liga table.
