Interim manager and United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, set to be replaced by Ruben Amorim later this month, had been hoping to continue his successful start. After leading United to a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the League Cup quarterfinal midweek, the former striker received enthusiastic support from fans who chanted his name in a lively atmosphere before kickoff.
The breakthrough moment came 20 minutes before full-time. United was awarded a penalty when Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, clipped United striker Rasmus Hojlund in the box. Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot, coolly sending Sanchez the wrong way. The goal ignited jubilant celebrations, with Van Nistelrooy sprinting down the touchline, visibly energized by the team’s lead.
However, the joy was fleeting. Just four minutes later, Chelsea capitalized on a set piece. A corner kick cleared only to the edge of the penalty area found Caicedo, who connected cleanly, firing a low shot into the bottom corner. The Ecuadorian midfielder’s equalizer ensured Chelsea would walk away with a hard-earned point.

Chelsea’s reliance on Palmer for creative spark was evident, but United’s defensive midfield pairing of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte limited the young playmaker’s impact. Nevertheless, Palmer managed to keep the Blues’ offense ticking in key moments, allowing them to push forward against a vulnerable United defense.
