Cadiz aims to add to Valencia’s misery

After ending the year with a goalless draw against Real Valladolid in the Spanish La Liga, Cadiz Cf has begun preparing for their trip to the Mestalla against Valencia on January 4.

The newly-promoted side has resumed Christmas break to continue from where they stopped.

Cadiz is currently 9th on the La Liga Santander table with 19 points from 16 games. They have proven to be one of the surprise packages after getting results against Real Madrid and Barcelona.

This means that the Cadista is already thinking of 2021. They trained on Thursday morning at the Ciudad Deportiva. A look at the session shows that their minds are set on the clash scheduled for Monday, January 4.

Álvaro Cervera’s men could be one of the sides that will defeat Valencia this season. They had recorded more away wins than home this season. The only home win they boast of was against Barcelona.

For a team that doesn’t have the financial muscle like the top six, it can be said that the Cadistas are not under pressure as they go into this.

During the session, they were divided into two groups – some started from the beginning and later retired after the rounds, while the others did more intense work sessions on the lawn of Campo Macarty in El Rosal. Before ending the session, there were attack and defense actions with mini-matches in tight spaces.

Cadiz is going into the clash on the back of 3 matches winless streak that they are yet to score a single goal in those games.

Having won three of their past ten games, Cadiz needs to keep their position in the top half of the table by getting a result against Valencia. They will be going into the clash without Carlos Akap and Alvaro Negredo, who are suspended after being red-carded in their last outing. Some other players are also out of the game due to yellow card accumulation. Cadiz has so far received 26 yellow cards this season.

Interestingly, this will be their first meeting with Valencia, who are also winless in their last three games.

Just like their visitors, the Metsla outfit only recorded two wins in their last ten games. They lost their last outing against Granada despite going ahead.

To beat their host, Cadiz has to score, which they have found hard to come by.

Valencia, on their part, will be without Goncalo Guedes, Jason, Thierry Correia.

Their disciplinary issues are worst than that of Cadiz, as they have received 36 yellow cards so far this season.

It is hoped that Cadiz will add to Valencia’s misery and get back to winning ways. But a draw will be a good result for them.
