Liverpool’s poor run of form continued on Thursday evening as Burnley beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 1-0 at the Anfield stadium in the Premier League.
Burnley’s Ashley Barnes got the winning goal from the spot seven minutes from time after Liverpool goalkeeper Allison Becker committed foul in the box.
Liverpool the game had only scored once in four Premier League games, a feat that saw them draw 3 and lose 1 of their last 4 games before the visit of Burnley to the Anfield stadium on Thursday.
The Reds were on a 68-game unbeaten run at the Anfield stadium which runs to April 23, 2017, when Crystal Palace won at the Anfield Stadium.
Meanwhile, Burnley had just one win from their last 4 Premier League games with the rest being losses to West Ham, Manchester United, and Leeds United.
Burnley had lost to West Ham in their last game at West Ham in London, but the Clarets were compact at Merseyside with Nick Pope in goal coordinating a defense that wasn’t ready to let its guard down.
The win pulls Burnley up into 16th position with 19 points from 18 games played and they are now seven points away from Fulham in the last relegation place.
Liverpool continues to lose their foot in the title race with the result as they remain in fourth but six points away from table-topping Manchester United.
Divock Origi should have scored in the first half after pouncing on an error from Burnley defender Ben Mee but his strike hit the bar and that was the closest the Reds came to scoring a goal in the game.
Liverpool’s poor run of form is underlined by the fact that the team has only picked two points from a possible 12 against supposed weaker oppositions in the league.
