Vincent Kompany recorded a historic season with Burnley by winning the Championship with 101 points, an all-time club and league record.
After the recent victory against Cardiff at Turf Moor, corresponding to the last day of the Championship, the team led surpassed the mark of 100 accumulated points.
Kompany knows well what it is for a team to exceed 100 points in a league since he was part of Manchester City which registered 100 points in the 2017/2018 Premier League season; on that occasion, he did it as a player and captain of the club.
Kompany has started his coaching career in England on the right foot and is now preparing to face the top flight next season.
“He will be the manager of Manchester City. Is going to happen at some point ” were the words that Pep dedicated to his pupil a couple of months ago when he saw how well he was doing during his first season as a coach in English football.
Thanks to his magnificent performance in charge of the Burnley bench, the Belgian coach was renewed to lead until 2028.
“Burnley and Turf Moor seemed perfect to me from the start, so signing for the next five years also seems good to me,” said Vincent.
“Together with the fans, we have made Turf Moor a fortress again, and we continue to look to the future and work to make Burnley better at every step,” said the Belgian coach after extending his contract.
Kompany recognizes the significant influence that Guardiola has had on his development. “(Pep) he found a language for football that I understood and, from there, I was able to start writing my own story.” said the player in an interview.
