Rennes manager Bruno Genesio says he is ready to become the France national team’s coach.
This is following their recent defeat in the UEFA Nations League against Sweden. Les Bleus deserved to lose the match as they failed to live up to expectations.
This could be due to the massive rotation in the squad.
The development has led to speculations that Deschamps might leave the team soon.
France have been in poor form since the UEFA Nations League began. They lost at home to Denmark, and had two consecutive 1-1 draws with Austria and Croatia. Les Blues lost at home again to Croatia, before managing their only Nations League win over Austria.
In their last group match, Didier Deschamps’ men lost 2-0 to Denmark, which led to rumours about his job.
Nonetheless, injury to Karim Benzema might have also played a factor, as the Ballon d’Or nominee missed the latest games due to injury.
Not shy nor afraid of words, the Rennes coach is hoping to replace Deschamps.
Genesio has been the manager of Stade Rennais FC since March 2021. The 56-year-old technician is doing great things in Brittany. This has put him among the coaches that could replace Deschamps should he be sacked or resign.
After a stint in China, His return to Ligue 1 has been triumphant.
The former Beijing Guoan manager expressed his confidence in his ability to be able to lead the France team should he be given the opportunity.
He, however, noted that it was necessary to believe in Deschamps and support him.
France were knocked out of the Euro 2020. They are looking forward to defending the World Cup trophy they won in Russia.
Thanks to Croatia, who beat Austria to qualify for the semi-finals of the Nations League, France would have been relegated from the top tier of the tournament.
They will be looking forward to bouncing back as they prepare for the World Cup.
