Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has tipped Manchester City to be once again the favorites to win the upcoming season of the Premier League. In the previous season of English football, Cityzens and Liverpool stayed neck to neck and the former won the title only in the last game of the season.
Keane believes teams like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal will not be able to give competition to Liverpool and Manchester United as the gap between them is considerable. Former midfielder reckons City have strengthened their team with the signing of Erling Haaland.
Roy Keane, who had a glorious career with Manchester United, believes Manchester City will be favorites as they will be led by one of the best managers in Pep Guardiola.
Keane said as quoted by the Mirror, “I don’t think they will close the gap. I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruitment, but you can’t look beyond Liverpool and Manchester City.”
“Brilliant players, they have obviously improved with an unbelievable striker (Erling Haaland), and they have got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep (Guardiola).”
On the other hand, Manchester United had a horrible run in the previous season. They had finished in sixth place after bagging only 58 points, which was their worst ever points tally in league history. But Keane doesn’t see the Red Devils giving any competition to Liverpool and Manchester City.
“The manager (Erik ten Hag) no doubt will be given money to spend, how he recruits; four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing. But I still don’t see Manchester United competing with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet.”
