Manchester United have their targets set for the new season as they look to bolster midfield options. One such player has to be Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma who is one of the biggest targets for the Ralf Rangnick led Red Devils.
United have recently received a major boost after Brighton boss Graham Potter confirmed that they may not able to hold off their best players. The English tactician feels that Bissouma is ready to make a big move and if a Champions League competing team comes calling then Brighton may not be able to hold one of their prized possession.
Reports suggested that the Red Devils were interested in Yves Bissouma last summer but they simply could not close the deal out. The midfielder was reluctant to leave Brighton whereas Brighton also did their best to hold him at their club.
Speaking to the media, Brighton manager Graham Potter revealed that Bissouma may join a bigger club this coming summer. He feels that the midfielder will have to take a call this summer on his future.
“Yves is really enjoying his football with us and we’ve had lots of speculation over various windows and he’s still here with us. But you also have to understand that the club and him, you face a point where you’ve got a decision to make. If there is Champions League interest, as an example, as a club how do you compete with that if you’re ‘teams like Brighton’, ” Potter said.
Potter feels that it is difficult for the club to fight with teams with a much bigger budget. Also transfer sagas like these often disrupt the relationships between the player and the club. “How do you compete financially and how can you stop the player taking that opportunity up? It’s very difficult because it not only hampers the relationship you have with the player, and it’s a challenge for that, but also damages your whole structure,” the Brighton head coach added.
Apart from Manchester United, Arsenal are also in the race to sign Bissouma. The midfielder was not willing to leave Brighton last summer as he felt that the time was not right for him to leave the club then. However, the upcoming summer can be a game-changer for Bissouma. He has more experience now and is willing to listen to offers from clubs. Surprisingly Aston Villa are also in the market to sign the Brighton star.
