Paris Saint Germain star Neymar Jr. informed everyone that he is staying at the French outfit till 2025. There was slight doubt that the Brazilian forward would be at PSG for the upcoming years as well.
The Brazilian also went quiet post PSG’s knockout from the tournament. The French outfit were knocked out by English Premier League champions outfit Manchester City. In those couple of weeks, some of them thought that Neymar Jr. is all set to return back to Barcelona or join some other team.
However, their wait is now over as the announcement reached faster than light and the Brazilian star is staying at the French capital till 2025.
It is a clear indication of the commitment that the 29-year old currently has to the club as several news sources report that FC Barcelona were ready to launch a big money move for the former Santos footballing star.
“I’m very happy, very happy to be extending my contract with Paris until 2025,” he told PSGTV.
“The truth is that I’m very happy to be staying here for four more years, to be a part of the club’s project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League.
“The first factor is happiness. The joy of being part of this squad, of the team, of Paris Saint-Germain, the club. And then, of course, the affinity I have with the club, with the work, with the players that are in the squad today, with a great coach who will certainly help us even more.”
Despite Neymar’s contract extension all is not well for the Parisians at the moment. Already knocked out of the Champions League semifinals by Manchester City and now even trailing against LOSC Lille in the domestic Ligue 1. Neymar was heavily criticised even in France after Pep Guardiola’s men knocked PSG out of the competition.
His performance was branded “catastrophic” in France Football and “astonishingly wasteful” by L’Equipe, while former Champions League finalist Jerome Rothen said: “If PSG want to go forward with Neymar, his behaviour must improve.”
With so much to prove at Pairs, the 29-year-old Brazilian is all set to build his own legacy at the club where mostly he is the hero but at times he even becomes the villain.
