Brazil and Ghana will meet for the 4th time at the senior national level when both sides face off in a friendly match ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
The five-time world champions had managed to defeat Ghana on all three occasions, although the last time both national teams met was in 2011 when Brazil won 1-0.
The meeting in Le Havre is significant for both teams ahead of their FIFA World Cup campaigns in November, with Brazil set to face Cameroon, Switzerland, and Serbia in their group. They will also face Tunisia in another friendly next week.
The Brazilians will be without the Arsenal trio of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and defender Gabriel Magalhaes despite all three having had a good start to the season.
Gabriel Jesus scored, and Martinelli featured consistently as Arsenal gathered 15 points from a possible 18 from 6 matches so far this season.
However, Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr is set to play a part, as well as Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Richarlison.
Meanwhile, Ghana has a tough group that houses Uruguay, South Korea, and Portugal for the world cup. Still, they will try and navigate Nicaragua next week after Friday’s epic clash with Brazil.
The Ghanaians, who have lost all previous matches failing to score in each of the last three, will have some of their European-based players, including Iñaki Williams. He will be in the spotlight if he debuts, having switched his allegiance from Spain.
Ghana secured their FIFA World Cup place by beating west African neighbors Nigeria to the final ticket with a 1-1 aggregate scoreline and advancing on the away goal rule.
In other friendly fixtures for Friday, Canada will face World Cup hosts Qatar, the United States of America will face Japan, Cameroon will face Uzbekistan and South Korea against Costa Rica.
