Bournemouth will hope to return to Premier League action on a winning note and continue from where they stopped before the world cup break.
The cherries, who are now under a settled managerial condition after the confirmation of Gary O’Neill as the permanent manager at the vitality Stadium, will face Chelsea on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
O’Neil’s first game in charge in the permanent position saw them face Newcastle United in the EFL Cup was a 1-0 defeat.
Bournemouth’s last Premier League game was a 3-0 victory over Everton before the world cup break. A win against Chelsea is a strong possibility with Chelsea’s poor form losing their last three Premier League games.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter spoke of his disappointment with the form before the World Cup and stated that he would have preferred to go on the break in better form.
“I would rather have gone on holiday with a couple of wins behind me because I probably would have been better company for my poor wife. As it was, I’m staring into the Pacific Ocean, and she’s thinking about what a wonderful time we’re having, and I’m thinking about Chelsea Football Club.” Potter said.
The game is one of the two matches that will be played in the Premier League on Tuesday. While Chelsea welcomes Bournemouth to Stamford Bridge, Manchester United will welcome Nottingham Forest in the second game on Tuesday.
There are five points between both Bournemouth and Chelsea, as the Blues are placed in ninth with 21 points from fifteen games. The Cherries have sixteen points from fifteen games and can reduce the gap to two points and move as high as eleventh.
Meanwhile, in other Premier League games played on Monday, Arsenal went eight points above Manchester City with a 3-1 comeback victory over West Ham United.
