After an exciting 1-0 victory that took them out of the bottom of the Premier League table on Saturday against Liverpool, Bournemouth defender Kelly has relished the victory and recounted his experience defending against Mohamed Salah and his Liverpool teammates.
The Cherries recorded an unthinkable 1-0 victory over Liverpool just seven days after the Reds trashed Manchester United 7-0. A first-half goal from Philip Billing was all they needed, although they also needed a second-half penalty miss from Mohamed Salah to secure the victory.
Speaking after the game, Kelly explained that he had envisaged that facing Mohamed Salah was always going to be tough.
“He’s always tough. He’s a top, top player. You know he has quality on the transition; he’s proved that numerous times this season. I knew that I had to be on my game and be alert to those situations, and I think I’ve done that. I think I knew it was going to be a tough game, of course, being out for several weeks, but going into the game, it was the same mentality of if I perform to the best, I’m sure everyone else did, we’d be able to come away with a result.” Kelly explained.
Kelly Lloyd further explained Bournemouth’s victory as a result of sticking to what the gaffer wanted from the start of the game till the end.
The win temporarily took Bournemouth out of the relegation zone, but results from elsewhere in the Premier League on Sunday and Saturday afternoon meant that the cherries sit in 18th position with 24 points. They are also leveled on points with West Ham United and Leicester City, who are in 17 and 16th positions, respectively.
The results also left Liverpool in sixth position with 42 points. However, Bournemouth will travel to Aston Villa for their next Premier League game.
