Bournemouth are set for their second signing in two weeks, with Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson set to make the switch from the Yellow Submarines to the Vitality stadium.
The Cherries agreed on a deal with Villarreal on Tuesday, with the player set for a medical in England on Wednesday. It’s a big step for Bournemouth, whose Premier League rivals, Southampton, held talks with the Senegalese international, although the talks fell through.
With the medicals set for Wednesday, the deal is excepted to be fully officially announced by the club.
The 21-year-old’s deal is around £21m, with add-ons taking it to around £25m. He will be the second Bournemouth signing in the winter window after Dango Ouattara moved in from French side Lorient
Nicolas Jackson was part of the Senegalese national team that got to round 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He is a versatile forward that can play in any position in the front three.
The 21-year-old has scored two goals in fourteen La Liga games this season with the Yellow Submarines.
Meanwhile, Gary O’Neil stated that the club are trying to do more deals and add more players to the team as the club aims to avoid relegation into the championship.
“The majority of conversations have been with the recruitment team, and Neill [Blake, chief executive] and Richard [Hughes, technical director]. But everyone’s working hard trying to get some things done that will help the club short and longer term.” O’Neil said.
Bournemouth has only taken four points from their last ten Premier League before ending their four match-losing streaks with a draw against Nottingham Forest at the Vitality Stadium.
The Cherries face daunting travel to the Amex Stadium to face high-flying Brighton before hosting Newcastle United at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth sit in 18th position with 17 points in 20 games.
