Bayern Munich’s new recruit Matthijs de Ligt has picked a better player between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. This is always a hot topic among football aficionados and the fans are divided between the two legendary players, who have taken the sport to new heights.
Matthijs de Ligt said it is difficult to pick one among these as both of them are the best players of the current generation. However, Ligt picked the Portuguese over the Argentine as he has played with the former while playing for Juventus in Serie A and knows him from close quarters.
Speaking to ESPN NL, Matthijs de Ligt said the following: “Difficult one, both amazing players, best of the generation. I’ve played with Cristiano (Ronaldo) so I would say, to me it would be Cristiano.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo scored 24 goals and provided three assists in 38 matches across competitions for Manchester United in the previous season whereas Messi scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists for PSG Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
Messi did struggle a bit for PSG while Ronaldo was the lone warrior for the Red Devils. Ronaldo is currently 37 years old whereas Messi recently turned 35 years but both of them are still at the top of their fitness. The upcoming FIFA World Cup is expected to be the last major tournament for these big players.
On the other hand, former Everton and LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan feels Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Major Soccer League (MLS) in the future.
Landon Donovan said as quoted by MARCA, “Beckham led the way: now our league is growing very fast and everyone wants to come here. I think one day Messi and Cristiano will play here too.”
