According to reports, German Champions Bayern Munich is hopeful of capturing Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt from Italian giants Juventus.
The Netherlands international has recently been in a tug of war between Bayern and Chelsea. However, Bayern director Hasan Salihamidzic seems to have had successful discussions with the Juventus hierarchies on Monday, and it looks likely the Bavarians may finally land their target this summer.
In an exclusive chat with the club media, the club director, Salihamidzic, was quizzed regarding the imminent transfer of delight as he revealed “anything is possible,” saying there is the optimism of the transfer happening.
We have identified our targets, and De Ligt is one of them, but we will see in the coming days, and hopefully, things will be positive.” He added.
Taking a closer look and reading between the lines of what Bayern’s club director revealed, it is clear that the Bavarians will seal a deal for the 22-year-old this window.
Although Premier League side Chelsea is still in the mix, it seems Bayern is ahead in this race.
On the player’s side, reports also confirmed that DeLigt is impressed with Bavaria’s plans and has even agreed on personal terms. All required is for Bayern to match the asking price of Juventus and all paperwork signed. There haven’t been concrete moves for now, but things will become clearer in the coming days.
With the incoming set to be sorted, Bayern still has to take care of their outgoings, with striker Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry yet to sign a new contract.
The former has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants are yet to agree on a deal with Bayern over a transfer fee. As for Gnabry, the German international has yet to decide on penning a new deal.
The new Bundesliga season is just around the corner, and Bayern must try as much as possible to balance the in-house transfer issues.
