Finally, it seems as if the transfer saga between Bayern Munich and Joshua Kimmich is nearing an end.
Negotiations have been going for a long time and certainly took multiple different turns, including talks about a pay cut and a period during the 2024 summer transfer window in which the Bavarians were reportedly even willing to sell Kimmich.
However, the noises out of the club and in the media recently pointed to Kimmich staying in Munich.
With the wages attached to the new deal still not clear at this point, it is believed the new contract comes with a bumper package for Kimmich.
Inside sources close to the club revealed there’s a high probability the extension would be announced this week.
Kimmich is set to receive a pay rise, which will see him earn around €22m gross per year [current salary around €19m], becoming Bayern’s third highest earner after Musiala and Kane.
In addition, he [Kimmich] will receive a signing fee due to his expiring contract, although it will be less than what Alphonso Davies got due to the age difference.
Going from discussing a pay cut to giving a raise that jumps Kimmich to third in the squad is certainly a concession from the club.
But, considering that the Germany captain played every single minute available in the season prior to the match against Eintracht Frankfurt, the 30-year-old’s importance to the squad is simply undeniable.
Bayern needed to keep him, and it looks as if they have done so — just at a higher cost.
Another player’s contract saga set to be settled is Leroy Sane. The Bavarians are closing in on extending Leroy Sané’s contract at the club.
Previous reports previously revealed that Bayern considered offloading Sané this summer due to the wage structure he demanded.
With several clubs across Europe, such as Galatasaray and Arsenal, looking to secure the German international’s signature,
It does appears that Sané will remain at the Allianz Arena, with talks between the player and the club believed to be positive.
