Spanish side FC Barcelona is thinking of signing Kylian Mbappé rather than their former forward Neymar. Barcelona were all over Neymar during the summer transfer window as they hope to reunite with the Brazilian who left their club as the world’s most expensive player to Paris-Saint German.
Various offers were made by Barcelona in order to sign the 27-year-old forward with some offers including players plus cash. However, both clubs could not make a breakthrough with their negotiation as a deal could not be finalised before the end of the transfer window.
There have been some reports that Barcelona hierarchy are looking forward to signing Neymar when the January transfer window open, however, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo in Spain, the Spanish Giant are weighing in on their options as they now want to make a shock move for his striking partner Kylian Mbappé.
Neymar’s longtime record with the fans of the Camp Nou is also one of the factors the Barcelona hierarchy are putting into consideration as the way the Brazilian forward left the Spanish side is not pleasant to most of the club fans.
There are still some sections of the fan base that are not happy with the way Neymar handled his departure when leaving for Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappé had also stated in one of his interviews last season when he was awarded as Ligue One’s best player that he wants a new challenge in the near future.
The Barcelona hierarchy are convinced that Mbappé, who at just 20 years of age, is a World Cup winner that can fill the same capacity expected of Neymar putting into consideration the French man’s scoring abilities. Mbappé’ last season scored 33 times as he finished the season as Ligue 1’s top scorer as well as registering 7 assists to go with his goal tally. FC Barcelona are well aware that stats like this are from big and experienced players.
