Barcelona revive La Liga title hopes with 4-1 win over Sevilla

    February 10, 2025

Barcelona has reignited their La Liga title hopes with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. The win, which came despite playing over 30 minutes with 10 men, marks Barcelona’s ninth win in 11 games and propels them back into the title race.

The visitors made their intentions clear from the start, taking the lead inside seven minutes through Robert Lewandowski’s prod home from a corner routine. However, Sevilla equalized just a minute later, with Rubén Vargas firing home after a swift counter-attack. The first half saw both teams create chances, with Raphinha and Jules Koundé coming close for Barcelona, while Sevilla’s Dodi Lukebakio had an overhead kick saved by Wojciech Szczęsny.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first, with Barcelona scoring within a minute of the restart through Fermín López’s header. Sevilla thought they had equalized again, but Rubén Vargas’s tap-in was ruled out for offside. Barcelona then extended their lead on 55 minutes through Raphinha’s powerful strike from the edge of the box, his 24th goal of the season.

The visitors were dealt a blow when López was sent off for a late challenge on Djibril Sow, but Sevilla failed to capitalize on the man advantage. Instead, Barcelona added a fourth goal late on through an Eric García header, which sealed a convincing win and moved them within a point of second-place Atlético Madrid and two points off leaders Real Madrid.

Sevilla’s unbeaten run of four games came to an end, with García Pimienta’s men sitting in 13th place in the LaLiga table. The loss will be a disappointment for the hosts, who had been showing signs of improvement in recent weeks.

The win marks a significant boost for Barcelona’s title hopes, and they will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures. With the LaLiga title race heating up, Barcelona’s victory over Sevilla has set up an exciting few weeks of football in Spain.
