Barcelona’s president, Josep Bartomeu has rubbished claims that club skipper and talisman Lionel Messi could turn his back at the club next season, insisting the Argentine star will respect his remaining contract at the club.
Graham Hunter, a renowned Spanish based journalist, revealed that a move to Manchester City was on the cards, but that will be based on if current City manager Pep Guardiola leaves the Manchester Side.
There has been a general feeling in the club as reports indicate that the 33-year old whose contract expires in the summer of 2021 is unhappy about the way and manner the club is being run and seeking opportunities elsewhere
Hunter added that there is just one club that aims at drawing the attention of the Catalan skipper away from Barcelona is premier League Giants Manchester City under the current regime.
He went on to say if the ownership which has the intention to acquire the 34-year old Messi at his prime, a player hoping to win another Ballon D’ Or. “If he fails to win the prestigious award again, i think Guardiola will have doubts regarding how Messi will fit in the system because of the pressure that demand to perform on and off the pitch.”.
However, Bartomeu has quickly dismissed reports of uncertainty surroun8ng Messi’s future saying he will not give details regarding negotiations
“I prefer to keep details of negotiations to myself. Lionel has always shown his love and passion for this club and revealed many times how he wants to end his career at the club”. He said.
“Currently, we are focused on competitions, and there are still a whole lot of negotiations to be made with several other players. Messi wants to remain here, and as long a he is here, we will enjoy his services for the long term.” He added.
Messi has again shown his electrifying form this campaign and broke another record on Sunday, recording a massive 19th assist his best career.
