Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has joined Premier League strugglers Wolves on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy for the Molineux-based side.
Wolves have had a poor return in front of goal this season in the Premier League, with eight goals in fifteen league games and conceding 24. This scenario has restricted the team to the bottom of the table with 10 points from fifteen matches.
The Premier League team returned to action against Gillingham on Tuesday in the EFL Cup but struggled to score against the League One side, underlining their need for reinforcement up front.
In Matheus Cunha lies hope, although the Brazilian hasn’t scored from 11 La Liga games this season, including five UEFA Champions League matches this season.
The 23-year-old was wanted by Aston Villa, but Wolves won the loan bidding and will get the opportunity to sign him permanently for €50 million.
Cunha joined Atletico Madrid last season for €30m but has disappointed Diego Simeone’s team which he scored six and assisted four in 29 La Liga matches, failing to achieve a single goal yet.
Therefore the Argentinian manager has stated that the Brazilian striker is no longer in his plans and is ready to load him off at the end of the loan deal at the end of the season.
Matheus Cunha will be in line to make his debut for Julien Lopetegui’s Wolves in the Premier League on boxing day before facing Manchester United in the final game of the year 2022.
He joins a long list of Wolves strikers on the front line, including Raul Jimenez, Diego Costa, Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence, and Adama Traore.
Atletico Madrid will then continue with their hopes of getting into the UEFA Champions League places have got 24 points from 14 games and a fifth-place position in La Liga currently.
