Atletico Madrid’s bid to sign Uruguayan and Paris Saint Germain striker, Edinson Cavani has been dealt a big blow as the Capital club’s €10m offer was rejected.
Despite Cavani being close to the end of his contract as he will be available for free in the summer, Atletico wants to bring in the striker in the January transfer window.
However, they have met strong resistance from the Paris based club as they have rejected the bid from Diego Someone’s team. It is the belief that the striker will play an important role in the second part of the season for PSG according to the club’s coaching staff.
Atletico has been brilliant defensively this season with the best defense in the La Liga behind Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao who have conceded just 13 and 14 respectively in 20 games.
However, they are the poorest side in front of Goals of all the top 7 teams in the La Liga having found the net just 22 times in 20 games played so far.
It is therefore not surprising that the team is searching for a top striker in the transfer market with Cavani being the top choice for the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium side.
Despite Cavani having just 14 appearances all season with five goals scored in the 14 appearances, coach of PSG, Thomas Tuchel as well as president of the club Nasser Al-Khelaifi, both believe that the striker will be a big part for PSG in the UEFA champions league as they seek their first title.
Atletico Madrid has not had success in front of goal despite possessing Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata in their ranks although the former has been affected by injuries. They sit in third on the La Liga table with 35 points from 20 games, 8 points away from table-topping Real Madrid.
