La Liga side Atletico Madrid are not ready to let go of their Brazilian winger Matheus Cunha who they hope that their evaluation of his price tag will help keep Manchester United away from. The club has also rejected Manchester United’s big bid for the Portuguese international Joao Felix.
The forward recently became a subject of interest from Manchester United, who are looking to bolster their squad for this season.
The 23-year-old remains a top target for Manchester United and is also in the thick of the plans by Diego Simeone for Atletico Madrid this season.
However, Atletico Madrid claims they have not received any official bid for the Brazilian from Manchester United. They also believe that the player’s buyout clause, which is €100 million ($102m/£84m), will be enough to keep suitors away.
Unless there the buyout clause is met, Cunha will have to jostle for the starter’s shirt alongside Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata, and Angel Correa.
The Brazilian did not start the La Liga opener last weekend against Getafe, where they beat their hosts 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Alvaro Morata and another goal from Antoine Griezman.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian still made a substitute appearance at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, which tells the signal of what to expect from him in the Atletico Madrid squad. Diego Simeone’s side were the champions of the 2020/2021 La Liga campaign.
However, City rivals Real Madrid won the 2021/2022 La Liga campaign as well as the UEFA Champions League.
Apparently, Atletico Madrid also rejected Manchester United’s bid for Joao Felix, which was worth well over £130million dollars.
Joao Felix provided a hattrick of assists at the stadium at the weekend, giving two to the loan returnee Alvaro Morata while Griezmann scored one at the weekend.
