Chelsea have not been that active in the transfer market as one by one their targets are being picked by other clubs. However they finally broke the jinx by signing England international Raheem Sterling who will bring loads of experience and goals to this Chelsea setup as he is all set to have a much bigger role at the Stamford Bridge than what he had under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has praised Sterling’s reported move to Stamford Bridge as he feels that this is a great decision for all the parties involved in the deal. According to Fabrizio Romano the Manchester City forward has signed a five year contract with Chelsea as they are looking to add reinforcements this summer.
Begovic who currently plies his trade for Everton feels Sterling will add a lot of versatility to this Chelsea team and that versatility will help Thomas Tuchel work around with more options in attack. The Bosnian custodian spoke about the transfer in “The Byline” podcast He shared how Sterling has a lot of weapons and he can hurt oppositions in different ways. He said, “He’s incredibly versatile, but it goes to show a high quality player when they mature; their game improves on so many different levels, and he can hurt you in so many different ways. He scores goals; he can face you up; he runs in behind. That’s why he’s so valuable.”
Begovic also highlighted how England head coach Gareth Southgate absolutely loves having Sterling in his starting lineups. It is mostly because of his maturity as a player and his ability to score big goals on the biggest of occasions.
“Someone like Gareth Southgate swears by him and loves having him in his team no matter what because he knows he can use him in big games. He scores big goals. He’s an incredibly talented player, a mature player and someone who is going to bring high quality to any team,” Begovic added.
When Sterling left Liverpool to join Manchester City in 2015 he was subject to a lot of criticism However with time he has proven that the decision to join City was a right one as he won several accolades under the tutelage of Guardiola and is also a starter for Gareth Southgate’s England courtesy of his performances in sky blue. He will surely be a great signing for the Blues as he will get a much bigger role under Thomas Tuchel than what he has right now.
