Arteta, Saka looking forward to UCL clash with Real Madrid

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and winger Bukayo Saka both have their anticipation for the media ahead of the team’s Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid on Tuesday. Arteta described the upcoming game as “100 percent” one of the biggest of his managerial career, while Saka expressed his excitement and pride in being part of such a significant fixture.

Saka, who recently returned from a 101-day injury layoff, came off the bench to score just seven minutes into his comeback game against Fulham. The winger spoke highly of his rehabilitation process, specifically thanking his trainers, Sam Wilson and Ricky O’Donoghue, for their support during his recovery. Saka’s impact on the team is undeniable, with Arsenal scoring 34 goals in the 16 Premier League games he was available, compared to 19 goals in the 13 games he missed.

The upcoming match against Real Madrid holds great significance for both Arteta and Saka. The Arsenal manager highlighted the importance of the game, drawing parallels to his FA Cup-winning season in 2020. Saka echoed Arteta’s sentiments, stating that the fixture is a dream come true and an opportunity for the team to take the next step in the competition.

When asked about his contract situation, Saka remained focused on the present, emphasizing his commitment to the team and his desire to win. He also expressed his pride in Arsenal’s young academy players, such as Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, who have been making waves in the team while believing that the fans will play a crucial role in creating an electric atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium during the match against Real Madrid.

The Champions League quarter-final marks a significant milestone for Arsenal, as they aim to progress beyond this stage for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Arteta’s team selection against Everton suggested that his priorities have shifted towards the Champions League, with key players like Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, and Gabriel Martinelli starting on the bench. Saka’s return from injury will undoubtedly boost the team’s chances against a formidable opponent like Real Madrid.
