Memphis Depay’s contract with Barcelona ends next year, and it seems the club would be willing to sell the player before that happens.
Several clubs have shown interest in the attacker, especially Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle United.
In the case of the Gunners, they have a long list of possible attackers who could join the club, as they desperately need high-quality players that guarantee good goal production.
As reported by SPORT, Arsenal wants to add two strikers this summer, with Gabriel Jesus and Victor Osimhen being the main targets. But Depay, Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Tammy Abraham are also on the list of options.
For its part, Newcastle wants to build a much more competitive sports project for next season, and Depay and Calvert-Lewin are the main targets of Eddie Howe to lead the club’s attack.
It is reported that Barca coach Xavi has no intention of getting rid of Depay, but they are willing to entertain offers if they come.
Barca is very interested in signing Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski and selling Depay would allow them to finance that move.
The Catalan club has been going through a transformation since Xavi took the reins in November. In fact, from December to April, they went on a 15-match unbeaten run in La Liga and managed to jump from eighth place in the table to second.
Next season, Xavi wants Barca to return to its former glory and compete at the highest level, especially in European tournaments.
