Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly told the club’s hierarchy that he wants to sign one Premier League player at all costs this summer. The Gunners’ priority is to sign a new midfielder, with West Ham United’s Declan Rice among their targets. However, they also remain interested in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. Caicedo was a top target for Arsenal during the January transfer window, but the Seagulls were unwilling to sell him.
Instead, the Gunners brought in Jorginho from Chelsea as a low-cost alternative. However, Nacional, a Spanish outlet, is now claiming that Arteta is obsessed with signing Caicedo and wants the Ecuadorian international at his command no matter the cost.
According to the report, Arteta knows that he needs to incorporate one more piece into his midfield and has no doubts that Caicedo is his best option. A deal for Caicedo would reportedly cost not less than 60 million euros, given that Brighton asked for around £20m more than that during the winter. Arsenal is already making a considerable effort to sign him, and his situation needs to be followed closely.
However, Caicedo’s recent comments about his desire to play for Real Madrid might complicate things. He said that joining Real Madrid and winning the Champions League is his biggest dream. He added that he knows he needs to work very hard to achieve his dream. Caicedo has reportedly ordered his agent to try to get him a move to Real Madrid, which could be possible if Aurelien Tchouameni is transferred.
Arteta is crossing his fingers that Real Madrid doesn’t make a move for Caicedo, and he could end up going to Arsenal. The pressure of several Premier League teams being interested in his services doesn’t affect Caicedo. He only wants to have fun on the pitch and win titles.
