La Liga club Real Madrid has announced that Brazilian forward Rodrygo has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club till 2028. The club made the announcement on Thursday on the club’s official website.
The 22-year-old is the second Real Madrid player who will sign an extension this week after Vinicius Junior signed an extension to 2027. The club’s statement was revisited when the Brazilian joined the club as an 18-year-old in 2019 and what he has achieved since then for the Los Blancos.
“Real Madrid C. F. and Rodrygo have agreed on a contract extension for the player, who will remain at the club until Jun. 30, 2028. Rodrygo joined Real Madrid in 2019, aged just 18. He made his debut for Real Madrid Castilla on Sept. 14 and, on Sept. 25, scored his first goal on his official debut for Real Madrid. In his five seasons in the first team, he has made 179 appearances, scoring 39 goals, and has won 8 trophies: 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 1 Uefa Super Cup, 2 LaLiga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 2 Spanish Super Cups.” The statement read.
The 22-year-old, who scored nine goals and eight assists in 34 La Liga games for the club last season, has only scored one and assisted one in eleven La Liga games this season.
After a 2-1 win over Barcelona in the El Clasico last weekend, the Los Blancos will be at home this weekend to face Rayo Vallecano before a Champions League tie against SC Braga at Santiago Bernabeu.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are top of the La Liga table on goal difference ahead of Girona, who also have 28 points. In comparison, Atletico Madrid are third on the table with 25 points, and Barcelona are fourth with 24 points.
