Andrea Pirlo has been unable to land a new managerial job since he left Juventus last season.
The 42-year-old Italian is looking to relaunch his coaching career and is actively looking for a new challenge.
He was linked to Everton and the Polish national team; however, he did not agree with either team.
According to Football Italia, the Salernitana from Serie A would have contacted Pirlo to offer him the manager’s position.
Coach Stefano Colantuono was fired a few days ago along with several members of his staff. The news was released in a statement issued by the club.
“Salernitana announces having relieved Stefano Colantuono of the position of coach of the first team together with his second Gianfranco Cinello and match analyst Sandro Antonini. Thanking them for their professionalism, the company wishes them the best of professional luck,” the club said.
Colantuono had only arrived at the Italian club in October of last year and left a record of two wins, three draws, and ten losses.
The club is at the bottom of the table and is struggling to escape relegation.
The club was very interested in the Milan legend taking over the club’s helm. However, Pirlo rejected the offer.
According to rumors, the club would have offered Pirlo a long-term contract and even guaranteed him the job if the club is relegated to Serie B.
But Pirlo wants a more significant challenge, and he hopes to come back with a higher caliber team.
