Portuguese and Everton Midfielder, Andre Gomes has been tipped to make a successful recovery from the horrific injury he sustained in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at Goodison Park
The midfielder underwent a successful surgery on Monday on his dislocated right ankle according to a statement by the club. In the statement posted on Social Media handles of the club, the club thanked the fans and well-wishers for their support and messages since the incident occurred.
The post went on to add that the surgery process went extremely well as the 25-year-old will start a journey to recovery in the hospital after which full rehabilitation will commence under the watch of the medical staff at Goodison Park.
Gomes went down under a mistimed challenge from Tottenham striker, Son Heung-Ming and although the challenge looked harmless at first, it wasn’t long before replays showed the extent of the damage done to the player’s leg.
Son Heung-Ming was left distraught with the sight while other players rushed to the injured Portuguese international. It took more than 8 minutes for Medics to attend to him on the pitch before he was evacuated.
Subsequently, Referee Martin Atkinson sent off Son Heung-Ming after initially showing him just a yellow card although Tottenham has revealed they would appeal Son’s red card.
Meanwhile, Everton manager Marco Silva has encouraged Gomes to make a swift recovery while hailing his players’ mentality and support for their wounded colleague. “The spirit we showed after that moment on the pitch, I think is a good one,” he said.
Tottenham had led after the restart at half time through Dele Alli, but Cenk Tosun equalized for Everton seven minutes into added time for the struggling Merseyside team.
Cenk Tosun then revealed the mood in the team’s dressing room after the incident via his Instagram page claiming that he wished the team had lost the game if it will ensure that Gomes’ injury would be avoided.
Struggling Everton are given odds of 17.00 to be relegated from the Premier League.
