Honduran forward for Cadiz FC Anthony Lozano was in quarantine at a hotel in Guatemala after testing positive for COVID-19. Lozano had traveled to Central America to play for his national team; he made the trip accompanied by Benfica player Alberth Elis. Elis, who had also been called up by the Honduran national team, was the first to test positive for COVID-19.
Faced with this situation, the Honduras Soccer Federation applied the first test to ‘Choco’ Lozano, which came out negative. The forward continued training with the national team until a second pre-match test against Guatemala was conducted and tested positive. Lozano was immediately quarantined in a hotel and could not return to the Iberian Peninsula.
Since his situation became known, the club coordinated efforts with the Honduras Soccer Federation to ensure the player’s safety. Communication between the club and the Honduran federation has been constant. The quarantine caused Lozano to miss the Cadiz CF match against Real Sociedad. The Soccer Federation of Honduras applied a new PCR test to the player on Wednesday 25, which was negative.
Luckily for Lozano, his condition was asymptomatic, so COVID-19 did not cause health problems and did not present danger from the disease. With the negative result, the player received the endorsement to return to Spain and return to training at Cadiz CF. Lozano has eight appearances and one goal for Cadiz CF this season and is eager to rejoin the club. Cadiz boss Álvaro Cervera would be willing to use Lozano immediately as he returns to Spain. Even though the player has not trained much in the last two weeks, the team has severe problems in the offensive and needs a forward of Choco’s quality.
