The 2020/21 La Liga season will begin on September 12, two months after the gruelling 2019/2020 campaign ended. Two teams from the 2019/20 Segunda División have already secured their promotion to the Spanish topflight, one of which is Cadiz CF.
Cádiz will play their first season in the main Spanish League after they were relegated at the end of the 2005/06 campaign. Here’s all you need to know about Cadiz CF.
The Andalusia-based football club was established in 1910 and is a club with a rich history. They currently play their home games at the 20,724-seat capacity Estadio Ramón de Carranza in Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. They are nicknamed El Submarino Amarillo (The Yellow Submarine), and are known for their passionate supporters.
The club gained their first-ever promotion to play in the Spanish topflight in 1977. That was the first time promotion to La Liga was achieved in the club’s history. In total, they have spent 12 seasons in the top tier of Spanish football.
They were relegated from La Liga back in the 2005/2006 season after finishing 19th on the table. After this, they spent 14 seasons in the second tier of Spanish football. They have finally secured their promotion after an incredible performance last season.
At the start of the 2019–20 season, Cádiz won their first ten games, repeating its best League start record for first ten league games of a single season. Back in March 2, 2020, Cádiz CF announced that an unnamed American investor would become one of the club’s shareholders. They officially secured their promotion on July 2, 2020.
They finished second place in the 2019/20 Segunda Division table, with 69 points, 1 point behind leaders Huesca.
Cadiz CF is coached by a 54-year-old Spanish former footballer, Álvaro Cervera Díaz. He has been at the club since 2016.
Cadiz CF Players To Watch in the 2020/21 season
The club boasts of a lot of talented players in their ranks. Spanish attacking midfielder, Álex Fernández, was the club’s top scorer last season with 13 goals. Honduras striker, Anthony ‘Choco’ Lozano, is also a fine forward, who was instrumental to them last season. Other players to watch are Pacha Espino, Fali, Alberto Perea, and Iza Carcelén.
Dafabet has signed a deal with Cadiz, and are set to become the front-of-shirt sponsor for Cádiz FC for the next two seasons.
