Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi was the hero for Everton on Thursday evening as his late goal secured a much-needed victory for Everton in their race against relegation.
Before the start of the game, the Toffees were just above the relegation waters on goals difference as they were level on points with Watford, who sit in 18th position.
Everton sat in 17th and had 22 points from 27 games which are two games less than what the Hornets had played so far.
Newcastle United was in similar positions at the start of the season, but after a fantastic January transfer window, the Magpies have had a terrific run of form which has now lifted them out of the relegation water.
Newcastle United has 31 points from 29 games and sits in 14th position 9 points more than Watford sits in the last relegation position.
Before the game, the terms had lost just once in their last nine games which them in their previous game where they lost 1-0 to Chelsea at the Stamford bridge.
Meanwhile, the Toffees had just a single win in their last five matches in all competitions, a 2-0 win against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup.
Everything well well dominated on Thursday night in the game against Newcastle United, especially in the first half when they were restricted to just a single shot.
Newcastle couldn’t find a way to break down their hosts’ defense, and Frank Lampard’s side made them pay with a late goal from the Nigerian.
The goal in the ninth minute of the stoppage time of a bad-tempered game ended Everton’s four-game losing streak and ended a 4-hour goal drought. It also came after the Merseyside were reduced to ten men after Allan was sent off.
Everton remains in 17th position but is now three points clear of Watford in the last drop zone.
