Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr are reportedly in negotiations to sign Spanish international Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder’s impressive performance at Euro 2024, which culminated in Spain lifting the trophy, has put him on the radar of several top clubs, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
Olmo’s versatility is one of his key assets. Last season, he showed his ability to play on both the left and right flanks for Leipzig. He also scored eight goals and providing five assists in 25 matches. His contributions were vital in helping the team secure a strong finish in the Bundesliga and a spot in the upcoming UEFA Champions League.
During Euro 2024, Olmo continued to impress on the international stage. He netted three goals and assisted twice in six appearances, cementing his status as a highly sought-after player in the transfer market. Despite the links to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, many believe Olmo’s immediate future lies in Europe, where he can compete for top honours and continue to develop his career.
A move to Al-Nassr, while financially lucrative, might not align with Olmo’s current ambitions. Journalist Matteo Moretto, commenting on the player’s situation, stated, “Despite Al-Nassr’s interest, it is unlikely that Olmo will want to head out of Europe so early in his career. Clubs like Bayern Munich and Barcelona offer him the chance to compete for top trophies, including the UEFA Champions League” .
Barcelona, in particular, have shown strong interest in Olmo but are also prioritizing the signing of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons as an alternative to Olmo. This dynamic opens a potential window for Al-Nassr to make a compelling offer, although securing Olmo’s services would not come cheap given his three-year contract with Leipzig and his rising market value.
Olmo’s ambitions in European football are still significant. Having yet to win the Bundesliga title with RB Leipzig, he may feel there is unfinished business in Germany. The allure of competing at the highest level in Europe, particularly in the Champions League, is a strong incentive to remain within top-tier European leagues.
Nevertheless, Al-Nassr’s interest in Olmo signifies their intent to bolster their squad with top talent, reflecting the growing ambitions of clubs in the Saudi Pro League to attract high-profile players from Europe. While it remains to be seen whether Olmo will be swayed by the prospects in Saudi Arabia, the ongoing negotiations show the growing stature of clubs in Saudi Arabia.
