Barcelona dropped two points at the Camp Nou, to give Real Madrid a potential advantage in the title race.
Real Madrid can go four points clear of FC Barcelona by the time they host Getafe on Thursday in the Spanish La Liga after FC Barcelona Drew 2-2 against Atletico Madrid in their game on Tuesday night.
In a match where Lionel Messi scored his 700th career goal for FC Barcelona, three penalties were awarded as Barcelona scored one penalty, and Atletico Madrid scored two penalty kicks of their own.
Barcelona took the lead from an own goal from Diego Costa in the 11th minute, but Saul equalised for Atletico Madrid in the 19th minute from a penalty which was initially missed by Diego Costa.
Five minutes after the break Lionel Messi scored a penalty of his own in panenka style.
